Air Systems Part 1: Engine Driven Compressors
Designing the right onboard air solution system for your work truck can seem overwhelming at times. From air delivery needs for your specific tools, to space requirements, to cost, there are a lot of factors that go into picking the perfect compressor for you. Luckily, viable options available for on-board air systems have advanced tremendously in the last decade, and Douglass Truck Bodies has worked hard to maintain a wide selection of options to make sure we can build an air system that fits YOUR needs.
This entry is the first in a four part series about the wide variety of compressors Douglass Truck Bodies offers our clients.
On the lighter side of onboard air systems, compressor systems from VIAIR offer great air availability while staying compact enough to minimize impact on your valuable cargo space. Run on a 12/24V electric motor, this model is popular with everyone from fire departments to RV enthusiasts who need to be prepared for everything from airing up a flat, to operating pneumatic jacks, to running small pneumatic tools, to inflating rafts and camping mattresses. Pictured here is a 10005 system we’ve installed, featuring a 33% duty cycle 400C compressor with 150 PSI capabilities and a 2.54 CFM maximum flow.
Bed mounted air compressors by Ingersoll Rand are ideal for mobile mechanic and field service applications. The IR2475 is a two-stage, gas-powered reciprocating air compressor offering 24cfm @ 175psi and a 100% duty cycle. They serve a wide variety of needs, and are our most popular air system. These compressors are available with either Honda or Kohler motors, can be fitted with optional remote starting capabilities, and come in either a standard 30-gallon or a low profile 4-Gallon version.
If engine driven is what you looking for but need a higher air volume the Vanair Viper may be right for you. The Viper is a gas powered air compressor that uses a Kohler 25hp gas motor and offers 40 – 80cfm @100psi. The Viper delivers its high air volume through a 100% duty cycle rotary screw pump. The high output of the Viper supplies the power to do full-time repair work and constantly run heavy air equipment such as jack hammers and 1” impacts.
The Viper can also be ordered with add-on generator option that can be mounted in the same foot print.
