Hybrid Flatbed/Mechanic’s Truck

Douglass Truck Bodies was presented a challenge by a local group of field mechanics; ample tool storage, but also suitable space for transportation of large heavy equipment. Their specific needs required a versatile rig, and the solution was a hybrid flatbed/service body.

Building the passenger side compartments at floor level, allowed for easy access to the generous cargo area, while still maintaining the compartment storage capacity on the driver side.

An Auto Crane 4004EH is installed on the driver side, while 12” high removable Rumber side rails enclose the rear and passenger side of the body.  Together the crane and side rails lend for easy loading and unloading of the cargo area. 

Their upfits included 6000 lb tie downs for safe and secure transportation of loads. Arma Coat spray on liner is added to the body to protect against heavy use and the rugged work environments so common in the field. For organization, their interiors included a bay of  mechanic drawers as well as  Equipto fastener trays.  The platform comes equipped with a Wilton 1755 Tradesman’s Series 5.5” Vise and Ridgid 7″ Chain Vise. The cab protector protects features a pair of 650 lumen LED work lights.
